Katherine Meynell’s practice has centred around exhibiting art works in museums and galleries since 1977, in addition she has written reviews, published artists editions, made single screen works including two for television (B.F.I. New Directors and BBC Scotland) and curated exhibitions. She completed a science/art book published by Marion Boyars in May 2005 coinciding with a major exhibition of work examining issues of representing illness (funded by the Wellcome Trust). Katherine is currently involved in an artists’ book project Cunning Chapters exploring material aesthetics, meaning and archival stability which runs from the 25th October to 31st December 2007 at the British Library. In addition to being co-editor, her contribution is based on the life of Santa Chiara (St Clare of Assisi) performance artist and patron saint of television. Since November 2006 she has been working with a broken camera that only records in nightshot, making a serendipitous connection between dysfunction and surveillance, to be shown at the Fieldgate Gallery in November 2007. Katherine is an invited artist on Luxonline (BFI funded website) a comprehensive account of her video works, for which Lux commissioned a monograph essay by Dr Andrea Phillips. Katherine is also represented (with an extensive interview) on Rewind research database in Dundee.
